Hi friends,
I finally got an IPhone- I have a lot to learn but am excited too.
However, I am finding myself more and more overloaded as we advance with technology.
I'm love it but sometimes I feel like I just need a mental break.
I'm old-fashioned in so many ways. I just found the coolest website to make your own laundry detergent, cleaning supplies etc. I hang my wash out whenever I can. I bake. All the things my Mom and Grams did (well not all maybe) but I'm a complete tech junkie too- Ipods, Kindles, etc -anyone else??? :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

I totally can relate. We purchased a new stereo with speakers. I have a hard time changing the radio stations!
What happened to buttons and preset buttons? NO, it's all on a remote that does't make sense to me. I just want buttons! LOL!

i'm putting the brakes on more and more technology. i want the simplest cell phone available and don't even use many of the features of it. i don't text, i don't ebook, the only video game i have is the sports wii for the exercise and playing with the DGKs, i traded down from my refrig that had the 'screen' on the front. i got rid of cable with 100's of channels and just have the basics now. to me, too much technology means too much stress.

when I see all the new technology, I think, gee , that would be great to have.BUT! I still don't really know how to use the cell phone, and I really don't know how to do anything buy my basic needs on the computer, I just got a new stove and microwave, and barely have a clue how to use them.( Of course, hubby said if I tried cooking a little more I'd figure it out!!!)lol I do love my Kindle though!!

same her...bought a new Jeep and it has all new technology. Hands free phone, on deck hard drive, heated seats, etc, etc. A CD of instructions came with it, but information was so limited we asked for a printed manual. When it came in the mail it was 500 pages!

Right now I have a love/hate relationship with technology. I love being able to look up information as soon as I have a thought about something. Yet, I would like a more simple life as far as information overload. I remember when we waited until Saturday or Sunday to make long-distant phone calls to get the cheapest rates. Now we can talk to anyone at anytime. I resisted using text messaging but now find it a real convenience. We have more TV channels but less to watch. Sometimes I want to get away from it all, cell phones, internet and tv. My family gets worried if they can't get me within 15 minutes.

I LOOOVE text messaging but I'm with you on the others! Have refused mobile phones with internet access and games on them - er? why? it's a phone!

My Gran was funny when text messaging first came in - she said it was just like sending a telegram but without the inconvenience of opening the door and tipping the boy!

I have tried to train all my friends and family to text first and then we can have a phone conversation if it is convenient, and for times and addresses and directions and shopping lists etc. to come in by text message so that they are recorded somewhere, and recorded somewhere that is on my person when the information is needed!

My six year old doean't have any game consoles either ... he's played with them at friends houses and I don't doubt that he'd love one, but we have barely enough time for him to play the computer games we have, or some days even to play with his physical toys, so I'm holding off from getting any portable consoles.

(Though I do admit to being tempted when we have long journeys to do ... or waits in a restaurant or for an appointment ... though the servers in the last posh restaurant were much more amused, friendly and chatty, at a table covered in plastic dinosaurs than they would have been by a kid plugged into a console! especially as the 37 year old godfather was fighting over the triceratops!)

Sometimes, I just have to make myself take a break. Which is why I am not listed as a regular right now. My brain just is not big enough to absorb all offered.
