Cushion covers for what - sofa coushions? Are there covers on them now? If so, use them as patterns.

Or, I would place the new material - right side toward cushion - and then pin where you want the seams

I did not view it yet, but try this tutorial

Nope! this one does not have your 1" strips. But this is how my outdoor chair cushions were made.

They are cushions for my outside chairs. I am trying to make new covers for the cushions. I cut tops and bottoms with 1" extra for the 1/2" seam. I cut strips for the edges an inch bigger but I can't get the corners to line up.

Sounds like your aiming for a boxed corner. Sew the 1" strips on 1st, but stop stitching at the 1/2" from the ends of each strip & then the corners should line up & then connect & stitch the 1" strips at the corners.

Thanks for asking the question Judy and to Donna Jean for letting us know where to find a tutorial. When I start reading posts I quite often find answers to questions I've had at one time or another and then forgotten about them. By asking I am reminded that I need to make new cushions for my window seats and my outdoor swing. My son's dog tore up the swing cushion and I tossed it. Now I can't seem to find replacements for it so am thinking I will make my own. This tutorial sure will help me. Thanks again. This board always has someone who has an answer...even if it's not quilt related!
