Good morning, today it's "Nikolaus Day" over here: yesterday evening you may put your boots in front of the door and "St. Nikolaus" will put some candies in it!!! Most of all children like this very much!!!

That's a great Adventskalender. DD is engaged to a German young man. What can you tell me about the "bride's tree ornaments"? Thanks!

Hello, I must say it's the first time I hear about the "Bride's Tree"!!! I never heard of this tradition before, I'll ask my other quiltfriends over here in the forum....
    And I found this link:

    http://marriage.about.com/od/christm...bridestree.htm

Sounds interesting, perhaps it's a tradition in Southern Germany....
I'll tell you if there is something new!!!

Yes, please check for me. I made DD a quilted wall hanging with cross stitch "bride's tree ornament" designs on it, but haven't found any Germans who seem to know about it. There was one woman in the US who had heard of it, so I'm wondering if it's something that German immigrants came up with. ??

    http://www.pinterest.com/

At pinterest there many pictures fitting to this theme!!! Till now I found out that these ornaments stand for special things like hope, warmth, family, generosity and so on...
Most people told me that their grandma hung up these special ornaments on the Christmas tree but they Don't know why and they can't ask anymore....

1000scraps, that's a wonderful Adventskalender! If they ever bring it out again I would love to have one for my grandkids!

We were in the same storm that day, I live about 30 km from Gronau in The Netherlands.
