I'm with you on that -- one year I was without for 10 days. Good thing I had a wood stove and a large glass greenhouse for warmth.

I showered at work in the gym. But I got really cranky after a while -- only instant coffee with water heated on the small flat top stove for breakfast.
Cold food was no problem -- it was freezing outside anyways..

Getting a good supply of food, paper projects, etc. as well as quilt projects lined up so if I can't go out we'll be OK. Would stock up on chocolates but they would be gone before the first snowfall, LOL!

I have heard the same thing too...our last few winters have been way snowier than what we had for a long time...guess we will have to wait and see what winter brings...and use any extra indoor time for quilting!

We are being told to expect a warmer and drier winter than normal.

When we had a several-day poweroutage several years ago, I boiled water in my fondue pot, poured it slowly through the grind basket of the coffee machine and still had real coffee. We grilled out a lot or cooked on the woodstove (miss that-don't have one in the new house) and had old oil lamps for lights. I still got a little cranky by the end!!! After that, we bought a generator!
