My parents, in a 90 yr. old house had a storage area under
the first step to go upstairs. Mom used it to store rags
for wiping up the floor of muddy tracks. Us humans and
    the pets!

Love the hidden storage in the stairs. Made me wish I had stair in my house -- more places to "hide" fabric stash.
I also loved the camera scope.

As someone who has wasted space under the stairs, I love it! My husband said he's actually seen it somewhere before, must be IKEA or something! :)

I actually designed and built the drawers into my basement steps about 25 years ago. I live in a split level house, and there is only about 6 steps into the basement. Since it may sometime get wet, I did not put one on the floor. The next one when pulled all the way out is 52" deep, and the top one is only as deep as the step itself. I used it for all the board games for my kids but now I have other uses for them, like packing tapes, my leather (to be used someday), my large bolts of fabric, wrapped of course. Instead of handles that would get in the way of walking, I drilled holes in the fronts. All you have to do is stick your fingers in and pull. I submitted it to Better Homes and Gardens contest but did not win, but I really think it could be used most anywhere. Most of the time it is just a waste of space. I have the plans if you need them.

I want the stairs that are drawers. What a wonderful idea, added storage space.
