I was wondering if anyone has had a Knne Replacement who also cycles??
The reason being I have had one and have just tried with the help of hubby to ride my bike but gave up---frightened I fell off.
I feel he is disappointed in me now,it's 10 months since I had it done.

I haven't but my mother did, she didn't cycle though. You should talk to your doctor about the risks involved.

My huz had knee surgery to remove part of his mediscus(sp). PT had him on a cycle 3 days after surgery. I also watched many knee replacement patients on the cycles in PT.

Perhaps your huz can set your bike up in the house, so it's stationary, and you can pratice cycling, without moving, until you get your knee muscles built back up.

    Hi
Have been to the gym but not for a while and managed slowly to get my knee round, but think I have lost some confidence getting back on my own bike and I used to love it---maybe it's getting older---am nearly 69,but that's not old!!!!

I had a total knee replacement in Dec. of 2008 and it was the best thing I ever did!! I had to pedal an exercise bike as part of my therapy back when it was healing. I can even dance now...it is amazing!!! The only thing I don't do is run. Went to the ocean a few weeks ago with oldest and family; I was even able to walk along the shore with my feet sinking in the sand. Yes, it made me a little tired; but I WAS able to do it. You should have been good after 6 months; but I do understand there are some individuals who have not had the success I have had. Fear is a great enemy of adults....that is why children can do so much; they are fearless!! Hang in there, and I pray you will find the courage to do it.

Mamaw---thanks for that ---yes it's the best thing for me too and I have done well.the other knee needs doing too. I do think it's the fear, walking is fine on good knee and I am never still, look after small grandchildren and go out a lot. I think I am frightened to bend it further than it will go so off to the gym and see if I can do better then practis on my own bike without hubby holding me. Thanks for the prayer

My aunt had knee replacement surgery about a month ago.
She came home from the hospital and went to Walmart! I thought it took about 3 months to get back to normal but it took her about 3 days. She said it was painful but got better the more she used the knee. The Dr. said she was doing fine and she could do whatever she could tolerate. I wouldn't listen to anyone much less my DH, concerning me recovering from surgery, I'd listen to my Dr. and PT and my body.

I understand the fear now believe me! Might be time to slow down a tad. Listen to your gut.

BellaBoo---I may have put that wrong about my hubby he is really kind and I think he was trying to encourage me,but maybe it is time to slow down but i really enjoy my cycle, especially when a neighbour of ours who has had both knees replaced can ride her cycle but she is stronger willed than me I think!!
