The company I work (ed) for laid off 55 employees. We were told yesterday and it is effective tomorrow. Unemployment was there today so we could file. Im pretty sure there will be more getting it in the next few months. This is the second round this year. They are also shutting down a total of 6 weeks spread out over the summer. They froze the pensions, changed the 401k match, and of course no raise this year. Ill be on the hunt Monday for a new job, but like most places they are scarce. Good news....more time to quilt, not having to be in that hot factory when summer hits and wearing the hot, ugly uniforms!!! Bad news, I went through a layoff when Maytag shut down and it took me till now to get back on my feet, not looking forward to that again, but I know I can do it!! I understand cost cutting measures, and doing whatever they can to keep the plant here (it is a Japanese owned co) but whenever I hear about a layoff I always wonder just how much the CEO makes and if he made any concessions, you know?

I am so sorry to hear about the lay off. :( Glad that you will have more time to quilt, but it is hard to be happy and worry at the same time!
Will add you to the prayers for getting what we all need! :?
I shudder when I look around and see what isn't here anymore! Does not look that good for a bit anyway!
I am glad I am retired and have a part time job! AND good quilting buddies!

I am sorry to hear that you were laid off. Just hang in there, you know how to cut corners but alot of people don't that are getting laid off.
My husband is worried about his place of employment, he has been there for 36 years.
Good luck and stay busy quilting.

I'm sorry that you've been laid off and I sympathize with anyone else who has been laid off. I hope you get a new job soon. As far as the CEO's of these corporations I sincerely doubt that they're making any concessions, in fact, they probably got a big bonus. I think this is wrong, if the corporation makes money, then I agree that the big wigs should also get bonuses, but when the corporation loses money or has to lay off people, I think that the CEO's need to do without raises and millions of dollars in raises and various other perks. My opinion

So sorry you are being laid-off  Hope you find something better, and not as hot soon. In the meantime - enjoy your new quilting time. Hope to see pictures of all you get done :D :D
