The yellow Stella d'Oros are blooming now. Love the little breath of sunshine. I have two beds of day lilies, other than Stella, two beds of Asiatics, which are all different colors and sizes. It looks like the Stargazers are going to be smaller this year, but we haven't had much rain. I prefer the Asiatics because they bloom longer and there are so many varieties.

I also live in Iowa where the orange lilies grow in roadside ditches.....some just about a mile from me. I'd love to able to dig some up and replant them here at home.

My guess about the tiger lilies is that it is too hot in Fla. for the lilies to winter over.

I have ditch lilies too. Like them around the old grain bin and along the rocky slope of our lane. Other day lilies are showing their pretty flowers as well.

The asiatics are in full bloom here...so many colors and yes they last longer. I have some pretty reds blooming right now. We've had plenty of rain...and the blooms are lovely.

Thank you for the pictures and the memories. I grew up calling all orange lilies Tiger Lilies. When I read Garden in discussing flowers, I always expect vegetables.

I have not noticed lilies by the side of the road or in ditches here. I do, however, have rain lilies in my flower beds. They bloom a beautiful, delicate pink after a good rain and then go to seed. Some people don't like them because they do spread but I love them.

Love the photographs as one picture is worth 1000 words to me. Found a new source to order my lilies this year, but the drought has hit us so hard, I may have to order them again next year. And the hot temperatures makes it difficult too. I do admire any lily bed I see as we drive by different houses.

We call them "day lillies" and I love them. Had some lillies in the landscaping for about 10 years, and always enjoyed their blooms each spring. This year the rabbits enjoyed their buds and not one made it into an actual bloom. Oh, well.
