After they eat dinner, my two male furbabies lie side-against-side on the front door mat like sphinxes and watch the end of the day set. Seeing them makes me smile and I wonder what they are thinking about as they drowse there.

One time my DH came home from work and I noticed he was wearing one brown shoe and one black one. He had gone in very early, and I guess he hadn't wanted to wake me up by turning the light on. I always wondered who else might have noticed.

My day brightener is my little black "wood" stove. It's one of those that is really a space heater with fake logs. For some reason I just love to sit and look at it when it's on. I don't even need the heat on just looking at the "flames" makes me smile...boy do I feel silly sharing this!!!

My day brightener was talking to my 22 yr. old g-dtr this morn. & having her ask if it's ok that she come spend Sat. night with me so we can be together on Mother's Day. We lost her mom when she was 14 & I've been her substitute mom ever since. She even tells any new boyfriends they have to pass the "grandma" test if they get serious.
Her mom couldn't afford to buy gifts so she'd pick up plants & come out & put them into pots for me. For Father's Day, she washed her dad's truck.

My husband brought me a lovely wind chime from Korea one year when he was in the service.. It has a ring of pretty brass bells that ring and a center piece that also pings against the bells hanging all around it.. One time something happened and I lost one of the little balls in the center of one of the bells.. I knew it had to be on the ground under where the chime hung.. but it was a flower bed that was full of old mulch.. I hunted for that little ball off and on for several years.. during that time the mulch deteroiated and one day we were going to take the bed apart and redo the entire thing. I knew it was find that missing ball or it would be gone forever.. I carefully looked and looked.. and as I picked out the mulch I kept a sharp eye out for it.. and I FOUND IT!! It's a tiny thing, but has made me as happy as if I were hunting for a diamond out of my ring.. I love that wind chime and I'm happy it is complete. silly, huh? It's the little things that make me happiest.
