I married young and knew within 6 months that it had been a monstrous mistake. I had been running away from a bad home life. I had one of those $50 divorces that I paid for and acted as my own attorney. After hearing my story, the judge wished me well and told me I had done better than many attorneys that appeared before him.

Three years later, I remarried and we celebrated 27 years last week. My mom asked me once if there were any similarities between #1 and #2 and the only thing I could come up with was the color of their hair! Have 2 terrific sons with #2 and one day the youngest asked me if he had a step-dad. Not sure what brought that up, but I told him no and asked if he wanted one. He said no, he liked his own dad just fine. I told him that was good because I was keeping this one.

    AbbyQuilts,
It is interesting to me that someone younger notices. I was in such a fog when we were newly married that I didn't notice the couples with long lasting marriages. The last few years I have been looking around and have chosen someone to emulate - my parents have made it 67 years. With good health and blessings from above, perhaps my DH and I will get there, too.
It takes a lot of work, laughter and love. And every minute is worth the effort!

I was married just over twenty years when my husband died leaving me with a two and a four year old. My children are now in their early twenties, both unmarried. They have a tendency to think their father and my marriage was perfect. I try to explain that marriage is like life, many ups and downs, good times and bad and like life you can make it what you want with enough effort.

Beautiful words & Oh,so true.Another bit of wisdom I read, said a successful marriage requires a bit of forgiveness every day.

Yeap!!! ALL Of this is so true!!! You never really know what will happen in life. Saturday the 4th of September will be the first time I will be "remembering" a really great day eleven years to the day prior; instead of "celebrating" it with her. All good things in life must come to an end, but I am learning there are still many good things to remember and that there is still a future. Next time around, not sure when it will be, but when it happens. I will be a better "partner" because of what Cathy taught me and showed me. The give 150 percent and forgive 100 percent
PERFECT! Always give more then you get in a marriage and things will be pretty good. When that stops then you will have problems. Arron(I still miss her, but I am steadily moving forward.)
