I have gotten many free ebooks from bookbub and ebook hounds. They also have daily deals. you can sign up for the
kind of books you like. I also get ebooks from my public library. Good luck with your hip surgery - they rehab faster
    than knees!

how can i find out how many pages books listed on Thrift. com have? I hate seeing books with less than 100 pages and can't find that info on their site. I"m back to Abe and Amazon.

I read tons of books, some I buy, some I borrow, but most I get on my kindle. I was a little cranky when my hubby bought it for me as a gift since I love a real book. Boy did I get used to that kindle quickly, especially with poor eyesight. But that aside, one of my all time favorites is "The Help". The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah is another wonderful book.

Bjbaxter, I just happen to have read both those books and loved them both, too. I should check both authors to see if they have written anything else. When I read The Help, she had not written any other books at that time but that was several years ago so maybe she has something else by now.

I get catalogs from Bargain Books. All prices from cheap on up. It is great for giving discriptions of content.
They also send specialty catalogs like music or dvds or childrens books.

Lauraine Snelling is my new favorite author. She has written numerous books set in the Dakotas in the late 1800's and really brings those pioneer times to life and makes her characters seem very real without resorting to vulgarity or explicit sex scenes.

I enjoyed the books by Jennifer Chiaverini. I know our library has these....a great way to blend reading and quilting
Good luck and wishes for a smooth recovery!

I love my kindle and read exclusively on it (except recipe and quilting books). Just recently discovered that a lot of James A Michener books are now available in e-reader format. Amazon has them. Hawaii and Centennial were two of my favorites. I remember reading most of these books from "way back in the day" way way before e-books. They are long epic stories that I think are good for long reading sessions.....ie recovering from something. The hardback and paperback copies are huge for reading in bed, so finding them in e-reader format is perfect.
Also have discovered in my "golden years" that although I read these books many years ago, I haven't retained the story line in my brain, so they are like brand new to me. Not sure if that is just me or what...but I digress. sorry
Good luck with your surgery and wishing you a speedy recovery.
