They are fabric strips sewn onto muslin for support.

I love you tuffet. I have been trying to get that pattern. I emailed the designer and she answered right away. SHe said to let her know if I wanted it and I emailed back. No response. I saw the class on a website but the shop is 10 hours away. Too far for the class. I found a free version of it that is square. I have been wondering if it would work on a round form.
Awesome job. Can't wait to make one.
