This was going to be my suggestion as well. We did a local 'antiques roadshow' type fundraiser years ago at our firehouse. Very successful, folks brought in things for general ideas on value and were able to make contact with several local antique shops. Some nice purchases on both sides of that equation as well.

Also....there are people that will sell on Ebay for you, and the percentage they keep is much, much smaller than an auction house. My feeling is that Ebay will give you lots more exposure than an auction house and things will probably move faster.

as others have said, do some research first about value.

Great news and not so great news.... I have checked into auction houses around here and their take is 25% and that is with them coming to my home and removing what I want to sell. Great for me, I don't want to try and carry all that "STUFF" up the steps and put into my car then drive 30 miles and unload it all again. The bad news is they tell me that now is not the time to sell that type of "stuff". Most are trying to empty their buildings and sell for a cheaper price. So I guess I will be waiting until Spring and try again. Thanks for all your imput it really helped. Carol
