Yes--every one. The most recent case was a woman who came home form work to find her mare dead from trying to give birth. I cannot imagine the guilt and heartache from that. Another person lost two mares and foals awhile back. A forum friend of mine had a mare who lost a foal--he got stuck half way through. The vet finally got the foal out, but the mare was paralyzed in the back legs. She worked with her for about four days, but she wasn't getting better. She had her put down. She was heartbroken--she'd raised the mare from a weanling. These stories make me shudder.
BUT--there have been many beautiful foals born too. I've heard it usually ends up at a 20% foal loss overall. That's another reason I stopped--I had 6/6 live healthy foals and I didn't want to push my luck.
