This is from Tracy: I think we might be okay for now. Jen thinks she’s too firm in the hips/butt—not jello yet. But with the experience I’ve had I’m on high alert.

Vet didn’t say anything about regumate. Her pH is still at the highest.

They check the tail area to see how soft it is... and I guess Sugar is not soft enough they think she'll go right away--at least today all is well. I'm adding her to my prayer list, for sure! I aked Tracy is 300 was the earliest--she'll get back to me and I'll let you know. I also asked what number of days Sugar's due date is based on....

    And this from Tracy:
We used lutalyse to put her in heat last summer. I bred her in the beginning and a couple months later the vet determined she was open. So we put her in heat, bred her every other day, August 1 through August 8. Ultra sounded a few weeks later and she was confirmed in foal. Did regumate a couple weeks and when her hormone levels tested okay I stopped the regumate.

Vet said any time the foal is 3-4 weeks early they do an x-ray to make sure certain bones are formed in the legs. If not, they can’t function without them.

Thank you Karla. What a scary time!!! Will be praying for them both too!!!
When they do the ultra sound, do they verify how far along she was at that point? Or do they just check for the foal, and not do any measurements like they do with human babies?

I'l talking with Tracy about dates bred... I'll be back with more info... maybe she's farther along than she thinks...

Ultrasounds are done rectally, but I'm not sure if that's how the vet confirmed the pregnancy... I always used a blood test after 100 days for mine.

Oh My! Will be saying prayers that everything turns out alright. How stressful & alarming this must be for Tracy. Let her know please that we are thinking of her. Thank You for the updates & explanations.

Has the vet been there today? is the ultra sound done at the barn or do they have to take her to the vet? I know, crazy questions....

Not crazy at all... Since I haven't done ultrasounds for the last two foaling years, I'm not sure if vets do that on farms. I remember now, when my mares were pregnant for the first time, they were at the stallion's farm and the stallion's owner and I hauled them to an equine vet for ultrasounds (ugh--they had to be sedated and I HATE that!). It was fun to see the tiny pictures of a blob of a horse. I hung them on the fridge.

    Update from facebook :

Bit-O-Blue Minis Checked records again. Sugar was bred May 18, 19, 28, 30. In July vet determined she was open. Did lutalyse 3rd week in July. Bred every other day July 30 through August 8. No idea if she could have caught in May -- what would lutalyse do to a pregnant mare? Abort the foal, right?

Lutalyse is a hormone you give to horses to make them ovulate . Isn't Google wonderful  LOL

That's what she told me. But, if I use the foaling calculator--and estimate 315 days, Sugar could be due June 10th! AND 300 days is the end of May! It is possible. If that is so, she's not too far away.
