PT made a huge number of the hats that were worn at the wedding. He's like the Christian Louboutin of hats.
Check out the gallery for some fabulously outrageous creations.
And don't forget the British LOVE to show off hats at the Ascot races:

And I don't think they upstaged the wedding party at all.
Kate has worn numerous Fascinators.
Plus hats have a totally different rep in the UK than here in the US.

To paraphrase:
You're right to fabulous fashion only exists as far your neighbor's line of vision.
I thought it was hysterical.
So if you're going to a play, leave it at home ;-)

And Arkansas is definitely out of the question, as we've been warned (amusingly) upthread. ;-)
Walking down 7th Avenue in NYC, however, you can get away with a LOT. Very few people would even notice. ;-)

I too love hats and don't know why the women in our country don't wear them anymore. True there was a time when Catholic and Episcopal women had to wear them to church but when I watch old movies I see that women often wore them during the week, even to work. Getting back to the hats at the wedding yes there were some silly ones but for the most part the hats were lovely.

But I do think hats are wonderful. We've really gotten away from it in America. I think hats are elegant!!!
