Micro Chipping pets
#23
My 4 dogs and several of the cats are chipped. Worth the heartache should they become lost.
If you move, don't forget to call the company where your critter is registered and change your address. You would not believe how many folks do not do this, Fido gets lost, we scan, cannot trace the owner down because they moved and forgot to let the company know.
Although the needle is large, it is hollow allowing for the chip which is the size of a grain of rice. It is inserted between the shoulder blades just under the skin where it stays for the life of the dog for those who wondered.
Not all scanners work on all microchips. Even Universal ones can be persnickety. If your vets scanner does not read it, maybe try the shelter near you.
Did you know you can chip your quilts?

My girls are registered with "Home Again" I think
I had heard about chipping quilts. If I ever create a masterpiece then maybe but my work is not good enough to chip. I am assuming that it is washable without destroying the chip.

My rescue chips all cats. I had my dog chipped after reading about the Katrina rescues. The animals were adopted out but the first owners spotted the pets and wanted them back. Problem was there was no proof of ownership. If the animal had been chipped there would have been no question. What a mess.

Yes, I have my Rhodesian Ridgeback chipped. I have seen it first hand. My neighbor and I found a loose dog. We took it to the vet and sure enough it had a chip. Easy process to locate owner. My Ridgeback is chipped. Had it done while living in Pa. Now live in Florida. In Pa. if you chip you do not have to buy a license every year. Here in Fl. where they get you for even breathing the air there is a charge. Fl. does not recognise the chip regarding licenses. It is only for protection of the animal. It does work but, I have to wonder if someone finds a beautiful animal that they would like to keep would the chip matter unless, they took it to the vet and for some reason the animal would be checked and found to have a chip. Still.. I feel better knowing it is there.

I adopted my dog from an animal shelter in my area. They chip all their adoptees. I was out in the park with CoCo playing fetch. She ran into the street and was hit by a truck. She wouldn't come to me and I lossed sight of her. The vet says they are sometimes crazed by the pain. I went home, crying all the way. There was already a message from the registry with a phone number where I could call. Long story short she is fine. There is absolutly nothing better than these chips!

two of my cats are chipper, but they were when I adopted them. To get the chip put in my name, I went through the place that done the chipping and they gave me the address and info I would need to get it changed to my name... then they sent me the new info with my name and address, all was changed quick and simple
