The mooching person who wants to quilt
#152
Well, I am sticking to my guns! I don't think this lady will be over anymore since the Holidays are over.
I did take my dil to a LQS and she fell in love with some fabric and wanted to make my ds, her hubby a quilt. I know whe was short on cash, so I told her to pick out 3 yards of fabric and it would be my gift to her. She was so happy!
I so have a kind heart and I don't mind helping anyone. But, I don't like being used! Nobody does.
The lady with the penny, well, she wins cheap butt big time! LOL Major Moocher!

If it was in a separate room lock that door. If she says she wants to go through your fabric, just say no I'm not letting anyone into my work space as I'm arranging things.End of converstion, walk away.If she follows you like a dog and keeps asking, turn face her and say did you not hear what I said. NO! walk away. If she asks again just say End of conversation NO don't ask again , it's called stand your ground, she's a mooch, as you put it.

Theresa, this can't work since I have a huge stash. She must have gotten a hint somewhere because she doesn't come over very often now. If she does, I keep an eye on her.
I have a 10x12sq ft shop outside my back deck that is just for my quilting & crafting. It's my "playhouse".
I also refuse to set aside fabrics that she can help herself to. She can just buy her own fabric like the rest of us.
Thank you all for your suggestions on how to handle this situation. Pat

Oh I just got a kick out of reading this. My in-laws are from central PA, and somewhat like what you explained. We have the same house as you and same situation but are accused of being rich. Believe me, when they come back to our house, I close my door to my sewing room to keep them from seeing my stash. They would think I won a lottery.
I could go on and on but it is kind of strange what people think rich is. Trust me, we're not rich.

rich; having many resources, abundant, productive, abounding in pleasing, desirable, vivid, deep.
(having many resources) that applies to the members of this board (abundant)our stashes (productive) the items we produce (abounding in pleasing) all the lovely photos posted for all to see (desirable) we like it, we want it, if not we make it (vivid, deep) the rainbow of colours used.
I think every member of this board is rich, just not money in the bank rich.
Having said that everyone have a prosperous New Year.

Being (so called) "poor" is no excuse for being rude and tactless.
Maybe YOU could go through your own stash and choose some pieces to give her. I don't think she has any right to "take" from you unless she's invited to do so - no matter how "poor" she is.
Sorry you have an uncomfortable situation..........
That's my 2 cents!!!
