I hope you will be able to keep your job. DH went through the same thing two years ago at his job. It was awful. They laid off over 300 employees. They called a mandantory meeting and handed everyone an evelope as they walked in. If you had a schedule in the envelope, you kept your job, if not, you were laid off. DH was one of the lucky ones who kept his job. DH has almost perfect attendance and can do just about any job at the plant. We went through weeks when his hours were cut to around 30 hours. It was a hard two years.
Some employees were called back and some never have been. Things are doing better. They are hiring again. But who knows for how long.

"The more you know, the more you're worth to them", may have been true 15-20 years ago, but not so much anymore. Now companies want cheap labor and no complaining. We have people at our plant who have worked there since the opening 13 years ago, have worked in many different departments, and yet, none of us have had a raise in 4 years. A team leader only makes $13.30 an hour, a regular line worker makes $11.10. Prices keep going up for basics, but our wages don't. One of our maintenance men wants to go back to school to acquire more skills, the company told him it would be on his dime. They used to pay for the maintenance people to go to school, if they kept their grades at a certain level. Now that program is over. When we ask about a raise, we are told "Be glad you have a job." We are thankful, but when we see our plant manager take off a month to go to Europe, we get discouraged. We are constantly told that our jobs can be moved to Mexico at the drop of a hat. So we hang in there, but the message is clear, nobody is irreplaceable.

Good luck...it's rough when they say everything is better....but how can it be with no jobs? DD had a small lunch with 7-8 women she graduated with. Two are nurses & out of that group, only our DD (in another state) works full time. The others are all doing part time, few hr "jobs".All have been layed off,& in this area that means "you're gone for good".
