Northern California - Redwood trees, Pacific Ocean, tall mountains, deep rivers, Pine and Fir trees - small population - I love it here.

Haven't been to Saltzburg, but I have been to Obergurgl and have to agree that Austria is incredible. I also love the Highlands of Scotland, the Peak District and Cornwall.

That's my childhood home area, and my mind says "home" when we reach a spot in the road when you can see the bones of the earth break ground on the surface along the road and the tamarack and black spruce in the swamp. But Asheville is beautiful, too--coming up I26 or I40 and seeing the Blue Ridge makes me breathe a sigh of relief. And the North Shore of Lake Superior is spectacular. And the Pacific Northwest. And the coastline of Maine. And the Gulf shore of Florida at sunset. And New England in the fall. There are many beautiful places, but for many of us, I think that a certain kind of geography calls to us as home. Not always where we were raised. To me, the required element is water. If I can't see water, there's something missing. Nothing beats falling to sleep to the sound of waves breaking on the shore, or the creek running.

Well I have been to Michigan, and it was lovely. My DH was born there, alot of his family used to be out that way. I wish I could say the same for where I was born, which was in CA. We now live in AZ and honestly, there is not alot that is beautiful here, unless you leave the city.
