Most Popular Word Used
#11
I'm guessing that I, you or he/she would be the most used (pro)nouns and am, are or is are the most used verbs.
My pet peeve with language is hearing "I seen him at the Mall" I want to scream "You didn't seen anyone, you SAW him!!!". I've heard my own grown children use the word 'seen' this way and we never spoke that way in our home. The influence of their friends??

I am surprised how many people use the word "like" throughout every sentence in their conversations. In my opinion it's WAY overused by adults and especially on TV! And those who use "you know what I'm sayin" after every answerback they give you.....arggghhhh this annoys me! I think people would be surprised if their conversations were taped and played back to them, how many times they do this!

When I was working in the trucking industry: everyone would say right (as in am I right); I used the word correct (am I correct ) due to the fact I would always be giving directions (right or left etc..). It drives my boss (in the medical field) crazy when I say am I correct instead of am I right.. LOL Oh well what can one say ? Both are correct; just used differently.

I stopped in at my bank the other day. When the teller asked how I was doing today, I responded " I am doing well". This absolutely made his day. Apparently his pet peeve is when people respond with " I am doing GOOD". This became a rather interesting and long conversation....

For nouns/pronouns, "I" wins hands down.
For verbs, some form of "to be," with "am" probably being the most used.
P.S. "Yes" is not a noun, never mind what Cambridge says . <G> Have you ever seen a Yes? While there are intangible nouns, like "idea" or "feeling," or "love," "yes" just doesn't fall into the noun category.
What it says is "a vote supporting a particular plan of action or a reply accepting an invitation". In this sense, "yes" is being used as shorthand for "an affirmative vote or reply". That doesn't count... if it did, there is no telling how far you could go redefining word categories. One might wonder if "sheez!" is an expletive. <G>
But one thing is for sure, if you want corroboration for just about anything, right or wrong, you can find it on the Internet, if you look hard enough.
