Movie Recommends Needed (on DVD)
#51
I love Finding Nemo, all the Shrek movies, My Cousin Vinny, Eddie and Madagascar. I liked The Bucket List, but not when I need uplifting. Good old standbys for me are Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry.

Shakespeare in Love - 1998 - Gwyneth Paltrow
His Girl Friday - 1940 - Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell
Pratical Magic - 1998 - Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest
The Long, Hot Summer - 1958 - Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
Fried Green Tomatoes - someone already said that one :-)
Out of Africa - 1985 - Robert Redford and Meryl Streep
Dr Zhivago - 1965
That's all that comes to mind right now. :-)
Oh my, none of these movies were made in the 2000s. What does that say about me or the movies they are making now. :-) lol
And most of the Alfred Hitchcock movies.

What I wanted was a movie that ...
a) I haven't already seen
b) was heartwarming with no depressing elements, no torture, no mutilation, no abuse, nothing bittersweet. Someone overcoming something bad is fine; someone making the best of something bad is not.
c) was recent enough that it would be on DVD at the library. Also, I'd be less likely to have seen it. But not so recent that (as with Julie & Julia) I'd be on a waiting list for it. (I'm #170 on the list for that movie.)
d) And I guess I wanted something that would stay with me, not something mindless and forgettable. Which is not to say I don't love comedies, it just isn't what I'm looking for right now.
Anyway, it's not so critical now, though I'm still reading and noting everyone's recommends.
I agree with Johnette, My Cousin Vinny was wonderful.

By the way, I love Hitchcock, too. I just don't think of his films as "heartwarming." ;)
