This was a great thread. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I have no plans to move but have been thinking a lot about my kids having to clean out my stuff when I am gone. And that scares me . And them too! Might be motivational.....

I am working on my sewing room now for a proposed move and am having great anguish over what to keep and what to donate. This thread has been a great help- thanks to all replied. We've been looking in the area where we intend to retire and my husband, God Bless him, is always thinking about where I'd put a sewing room as he knows this is what keeps me sane!

I used to have a lot more books than I do now. I miss them, but could not bring them where we are now, as there is not enough room.

My Mom grew up in a family that moved often due to my grandfather's job and she always said each change of season to get rid of any clothes that you didn't wear that season--exception being winter coats and swim suit. so each change of season I rifle through my clothes and get rid of quite a lot of stuff. Time for that now! And my guild has an annual garage sale and that gets me digging through my sewing stuff for donations. I find it easy to get rid of stuff--but my DH is a bit of a hoarder.
