Moving to Florida soon Need advice

I live in Northeast Florida...we do get freezes but not as many as you might think..winters are usually pretty mild and over before you know it...the only draw back to living here is the homeowners insurance(s) and property taxes...I hear Pensacola, St. Pete, St. Augustine, Winter Park, Kissimmee (sp) are great places to live...good luck...let us know when you get here!!

Thanks again, I am really grateful for the advice and help. We are not looking for a retirement type area, my daughters are still young, and altho I have RA I am only part way to retirement age! lol. Somedays I feel older but not yet. And no more 3-4 feet of snow would be wonderful!

I would say do your research. I lived in Orlando for 20 years and did not like the heat and humidity. Moved back to NC. Now in Tenn. Because the housing crunch hit Florida so hard, you should be able to find a house easily. Just to your research. Sinkholes near by? Don't buy near there. Don't live anywhere near the coast. Lightning is horrendous in Fla. It's the lightning capital of the world. Kissimmee has a lovely LQS called "Queen Anne's Lace". Hope it it still in business. Aiken, SC is a lovely, growing town that you might investigate also. The temps are easier to manage. 2 quilt shops there and antique shops and horses out the Wazoo. Go for it and enjoy the change.

Hello everyone! I love reading the posts here. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, must be quilters around somewhere, lol. So, my daughter is getting laid off in a couple months and we are looking at a chance to make a life change. We moved to NM 20 years ago, and we like it but... well they told us the winters were warm here, NOT!!! I now have rheumatoid arthritis and several other boring things going on and have been told to find somewhere lower in elevation and warmer in the winter for some relief if possible. My youngest has never seen the ocean, poor child. I spent some time in lower AL and upper FL but that was a long time ago. I am wondering about a few things. How hard to find a pet friendly place to live, probably a rental for now. We will look to buy when we know for sure where we want to stay, but at first we just want to look around a bit. My daughter is a Vet. Assistant with lots of experience and has several leads on jobs already. I of course will want to find quilting supplies.
I like to grow flowers and garden a bit, my daughter loves to grow roses. We want some place small town like, but probably close to a bigger city for jobs and such. Any ideas on great places, places to stay away from, favorites, or what ever.

I almost forgot --- Arizona has a lot of great quilt shops!

nstitches please visit AZ in the summer before you decide. It gets really hot there. There are some nice places there, and it is really pretty, but doesn't cool off much at night in the summer, and is still hot in the morning. Good luck to you too.

Florida is and always will be a beautiful & relaxing destination state with more and more people over the years living here permanently.
