With sorrow comes sunshine and peace. Your aunt was definitely thoughtful. Thank you for sharing your story.

Memories..they can hurt and they can heal. When DH's Mom passed, her lawyer said that when money came in the door, family and friendship ALWAYS went out the back window. He suggested, and they followed it, that each one take a number and go through the house and No. 1 put his/her name on ONE object, then number 2 take a turn, over and over till everything is claimed. This worked rather well...

What a wonderful story. I'm glad you were given things you can treasure and remember your grandmother by.

When my grandparents made their "final" arrangements, they wanted my mother to be the executor of their will. I told my mom to refuse, and to have them pick someone outside of their children to be the executor. I used to work in a law firm and saw waaaaay too many family feuds start over the fact that heirs can sometimes feel there is an unfair advantage when one child is picked over the others to be executor.

I share your Happy but tearful week. I lost a husband 6 years ago, on the 24. My Mom is gone but her birthday was on the 26th and dad has been gone for 7 years and his birthday will be Nov 2. And my best friend in high school (I met my first husband at her Birthday party on Holloween.) she died 3 years ago.

I do have a great husband now and he gave me roses to pick up my feelings and offer to take me to the cemetery to visit with my Joe. I know I am loved.
