I know the pain of having shredded hosta leaves. My boxer or my children always seemed to stomp the one I was looking forward to seeing in the spring!

There's really nothing much you can do about the leaf damage this summer. They'll be fine next year, which won't help for the wedding but they're not likely to be the center of anyone's attention anyway. I know how you feel--want everything to be perfect--but it's okay.

I'm thinking the opposing thoughts may be according to different varieties of the hostas.
Back Up Plan
Do whatever you decide to do, now.
The wedding's not til October, so in late September assess how things are looking. If not to your satisfaction ... go out and get some pots of mums and plant in among the hostas. Perfect backdrop for those fall wedding pics!
I still think with six months to go, you have lots of time to revive them!

Hail or a very hard rain will shred your Hostas.
It is very early in the year so I would cut them back to
about 2 inches from the ground, the plant may send up new leaves. Perennials are very strong. Keep them watered during the summer so they do not get stressed.

Saw this on a Hosta site.
Hail storms can cause a lot of damage to hosta leaves. As heartbreaking as it may seem, I would leave them at this time. The shredded leaves can still produce food and have some value, especially if they are new plants. Your hostas should send out some new leaves and a dose of fertilizer will encourage a flush of new growth. Then you can trim your unsightly damaged leaves.
