My ideal classmate - -
If I am paying serious money for a class - along with having an excellent instructor - there are some things my classmates (and I, too, for that matter) can do to make the experience better.
1) Show up on time - That means being in your seats and having things ready to go.
2) Have all supplies needed with you.
3) Do whatever prep work was needed before you get to class.
4) If you need a sewing machine for a class other than "learn your machine" - have it ready to go and know how to use it.
4a) Remember the cords and controls so you can use your machine!
5) Please be quiet while the instructor is talking. If asking a legitimate/relevant question, ask the instructor - don't yap to your neighbor.
6) Know where the restroom is before class starts - if you need to go - go!
7) Only have water in a capped/closed container during class. If you need to eat something during class time, get away from other people's fabrics and supplies.
8) Try not to hog the ironing board.
9) Only take up your allotted space.
10) If you borrow someone's stuff - be sure to return it.
11) Mark your stuff so that if it strays, you can identify it as yours.
12) Of course there will be other ways to do whatever - but I'm not paying to learn them right now.

I agree with Tartan. they never see themselves. I don't go to classes. money is very tight right now, but when I do, i'll remember all your hints. I'm always the first one anyplace, and someone always shows up 10 minutes late. really gets to me.

Sorry to hear that. Never attended a class, but I do know that I cringe when folks chit chat during our guild meetings when we have speakers. The funny thing is that our meetings, which are a lot of fun, have plenty of time for socializing. It's just that some folks can't stop talking. If they carry on too much, someone will usually shush them up. But, I agree, I don't think the offenders ever see their behavior as being rude. Hopefully, your next class will be better.

I love it when the expert teacher has an expert student who adds comments, rebuts suggestions and rushes in to help before the instructor can. Well, actually I love to watch a truly expert teacher shut down the expert student so well that the person doesn't seem to realize what just happened. As in 'No, that wasn't what I meant. Let's try it this way today.'
