Same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. My tech told me that the viruses were so deep that we would probably have to do a re-install of Windows. It's working right now and he's loaded virus protection on it but still not sure it is completely fixed. He recommended a free software from Microsoft too and is suppose to be sending me the link. Also, he HIGHLY recommeded using Firefox and/or Google Chrome for the internet. He said IE is getting really really bad about viruses and it doesn't matter which protection I have installed. He said the virus idiots are so on top of the protection programs that they can't keep up. He didn't tell me the # of viruses i had but he said they were really really bad ones!! I had McAfee running at all times.
I'm really hacked (no pun intended) because my Mini is only a year old and it was to be fully protected by McAfee and I'm always careful about downloaded and/or going to links that I don't trust.
Holding my breath now to see if it's going to continue to work.

my son who works with computers downloaded a free program called Spybot that does a virus scan on my computer every couple days usually finds at least 100 attempts to install viruses and gets rid of them
