What a sweet pic. Those are some brave and intelligent dogs.... that's my most favorite breed when I think about farmland in Maine. They are so good for family working dogs! I'm lovin' yours...

Abla will stay with us for life, as she warned me someone ELSE was not behaving! Hopefully when she matures, she will pass her incredible instincts on to her pups! It is quite normal for pups to "play chase" as they mature, which causes many problems for folks who work off farm and buy a pup too young!
Our dogs protect all the poultry, etc. and us too(we have cougars here!)

OK, abla will stay, but will the puppy she told on grow out of the chasing of the kids and become a good protector?

Since I caught her in the act the first time she did it, so far she has not repeated her misbehavior--however, there are usually multiple "slips" as they mature....
They are severely chastised for chasing or grabbing--I grab them by the scruff and "GROWL" at them for misbehavior.....like their mom would do....unfortunately Mom was out patrolling the perimeter when the pup misbehaved.

Here are a couple more pics--at work this time!

they will sleep with a cat, but it is even more amazing when you think for generations they have protected against wolves, coyotes, cougars, foxes, and anything else that threatens their flock!
