Here it is, cheap and easy! 1 part sugar (1cup) 4 parts water (4 cups),,mix ingredients in a small sauce pan and bring to boil, stirring occasionally, Or, mixutre can be microwaved in a glass measuring cup/ ALLOW NECTAR TO COOL COMPLETELY BEFORE POURING IT INTO THE GLASS CONTAINER! NO need to use any toxic red dye. Replace nectar every few days during the feeding season. TIP: fill half full, that way you don't have to waste nectar when changing it. But to sure to check your feeders everyday in case the hummers were extra hungry! Lace

Thank you for the recipe. I had it and lost it!

I don't like the store bought nectar as they also draw the bees, the mixture doesn't seem to. I have actually seen the bees drinking out of the feed holes.

Got to get mine out today, after I finish washing windows!
I do want to be able to see them afterall!

OK Dumb questions

1- how long do you boil the mixture for ?

2- do you store the extra in the refrigerator or can it stay on the counter ?

3- How long will the mixture stay "fresh" for ?

THANKS

This is what we also use and Feed over 50 hummingbirds a day. We fill four 30 0z feeders every 1-2 days.

I use the 1-4 part ratio also, but I pour boiling water over my sugar and stir until dissolved. Let it cool, then fill the feeder and store the rest in the fridge. It will store in the fridge for about two weeks. It is important to change the nectar in the feeders at least twice a week.

Enjoy!
