Need to make a fox tail for a costume/sewing w/faux fur

My kidlet wants to be a fox for Halloween. I found a brown turtle neck and some brown pants. I thought that I would make a white faux fur scarf kind of thing, ears and a tail.
Is there anything special that I need to do when sewing faux fur on my machine (Bernina 440qe)? I have never sewn with faux fur before and I really don't want to do any damage to my machine.
