when we were kids, we always had gerbils, fish, dogs and cats. however, my aunt allowed my cousin to have a snake. Therefore, they also had mice. Unfortunately, the mice got named and that made them pets not dinner. They continued ot have to buy new mice for the snake. I haven't thought of that in years (decades) thanks for the memory

Daughter has a Bol Python That went on a hunger strike for over 6 months so she offered her a gerbil and she ate it and wouldn't eat the rats that were offered. Rather than spend $10-20 for 1 or 2 gerbils each month, she found that it was cheaper to purchase a pair and breed them for the sole purpose of the natural food of "Geneva" They do have a couple that are pets now that they have ceased breeding...

When my boys were younger, they had a big worm bin in the basement. Free fishing worms, plus great compost!

I think the one that looks like an ant farm would be cool to watch them make tunnels. Maybe then you could tell the heads from the tails, lol.

Worse case, have her take it to the science room at school and give it to them for a project.

I'd love to have one - if I didn't already have more than I can handle already. I think it would be a great learning experience!

[quote=thequiltmama]I had thought about that but I am too afraid they might get out and wonder my house..ick.

Let's See....Two dogs, too many fish to count, a bird, a hamster, hermit crabs, water frogs and bird. Most didn't bother me, but it felt creepy when I would hear the hamster at night. I kept thinking it would get out and be running loose in the house... Didn't love the little rodent!!
