I've had many needles snap in the last few years. I read that needles made in Japan are the best quality of needles being made these days, made from the best steel. I always look for made in Japan when I buy needles or straight pins. Cheap pins will bend and break with little pressure.

Be very careful until you find it. My co-worker stepped on a needle someone had dropped on the floor and had to have outpatient surgery to remove it.

I've had needles snap on me several times - sometimes because I was expecting too much from it - sometimes ???

Hope you find it! Use a heavy duty magnet, not just a strip magnet, like on a calendar, or notebook.

I went through several before deciding to us my embroidery needles for my hand quilting.... ok it's not multiple stitches on the needle but my stitches are small and even none the less and my needles don't snap.

Did you check the quilt for the point?

Same thing happened to me yesterday! It wasnt a new needle either. My honey found them in his dads house, the package was dated 1971, never been opened. I thought maybe they were old an brittle(like me)LOL

Just yesterday I was using one of those self threading needles to bury my thread ends inside my quilt. The eye part is inside the quilt. My magnet didn't find it. Got a new needle out of package. The same thing happened. I know these needles are at least five years old.Do needles go bad.

I snap them all the time with hand quilting, even the good quality brands. They break in half or the "eye" part splits.

Superstition: Good luck for the recipient receiving the quilt is what I've heard when your needle breaks or snaps like that.
