As you will see below, I love Canada.


I would highly suggest Newfoundland, but during warmer months. It is a beautiful place with wonderful folks. We flew to Halifax and then to St. John's. We rented a car and drove across Newfoundland and took a ferry from Port Au Basque back to Halifax.

We planned our two week trip via the Internet and stayed at B&Bs. It was fabulous.

Stratford Ontario has Shakespearean plays and backstage tours. It's about 2 1/2 hours from Niagara Falls. http://www.stratfordfestival.ca/

dd - so amazing to read your post tonight. My husband and I have also been to Niagara falls twice and this year is also our 35 anniversary. WooHoo!!! Congrats to you two.

Riutzelj ... good suggestions! The 1000 Boatcruises are wonderful to do. Boldt Castle would be the Island you were mentioning. Many do just what you did ... and go around Lake Ontario crossing at Ivy Lea and Niagara Falls, which might be a good route for DD and her husband to look into.

DD ... you'll have fun planning your trip! Though I will warn you ... things have changed a lot in those 32 years ... all across the province! The good news is that NOTL (Niagara-On-The-Lake) is still known for its fudge ...

NOTL is also, known for the Shaw Festival, which I believe has theatrical productions.
Likewise ... the Falls has not changed over the years (except for some erosion!), but the area around has changed a lot, and with lots more attractions for things to do and see. Many enjoy helicopter rides over the Falls and area.

When you are looking at the Niagara tourist info, keep an eye out for their package pricing. You can usually buy a one day ticket, that lets you get in to several of the attractions for the one fee. And too, there are even Casinos right near the Falls, if that is of interest.

Being that your husband is into hunting ... Moose hunting starts in October, but further into the Northern Regions of the province. Generally Deer is the first two weeks of November, again north, but not as far as you normally have to go for Moose. Lots of other hunting possibilities too, I'm just more familiar with game, with family members who do so. However, I have no clue as to regulations about non-residents. Your husband would need to check into that.

If you want to go to Amish Country, St. Jacob's is the heart of that. There are guided tours plus you can get personal ones where the guide (an actual Mennonite or Amish person) gets into your car and explains as you drive. Sometimes there are horse and buggy tours available which of course, can be quite enjoyable. There is a large Farmers' Market on Thursdays and Saturdays (also Tuesdays in the summer). It always has a lot more than just farm produce to check out.

If live theatre is of interest ... I already mentioned NOTL. PLus, check out the Stratford Festival Theatre, in Stratford as they have four venues, so several different types of shows on at the same time. Another to look into would be Drayton Entertainment, with seven theatres spread around different communities. Stratford is not so far from St. Jacobs, and Drayton has two at St. Jacobs, with the others, not so far away.

And oh my don't forget .... we can find you LOTS of LQS' most anywhere you want to go!

One of the pleasures of Niagara is getting up VERY early and viewing the Falls when no one else is there. It's magical and a tiny hint of what the earliest visitors may have seen.
