What a great thought. When our son was younger, about ll or so, he kept taking my good pair of scissors. So, I put a chain and padlock on them so atleast I could find them. Little bugger, knew how to pick a lock!!! He is 34 now and a great family man with a son of his own. Wonder if he can pick a lock?

My ex used to walk off with my "house" tools and never return them. I told him to take one more and he would regret it. He did and I grabbed my hammer and let him think he was about to get it. That's all the teaching it took.

My good scissors disappeared for about 10 years. All of a sudden they appeared in my sewing drawer. All those years no one had seen them!!!!

I tie a small piece of narrow knit (like a ribbon) through the handles of MY scissors. Death to those who mess with them. (IF) and when I feel that the scissors are no longer of use for sewing, I remove said fabric clue and write PAPER on the blades. This has worked for me through 2 husbands, 7 children, 4 grandchildren and all of their assorted spouses. As they say, "try it, you'll like it" as it even works with the tiny stork scissors without being too bulky.

I needed this idea when my daughter was married. We were decorating for the reception and the groom (now my really wonderful son-in-law) was helping cut some satin ribbon. Then he took my good scissors and proceeded to cut the wire stems of the silk flowers we were using. My daughter got this really sick look on her face (it's funny in retrospect) and told him that those were my 'good' scissors. He immediately reached in his pocket and gave me money to replace them. Of course I refused (he hadn't known any better) but they were damaged beyond repair. I did get them sharpened enough for paper. LOL He was sure he had blown the mother-in-law / son-in-law relationship.

My DGS took my rotary cutter with a BRAND NEW blade, and ran it up and down my tile counter-on the rough grout lines! He wanted to get the grout lines extra clean! "Oh, I thought this was just an old pizza cutter. I didn't know" GRRRR

I had a pair of scissors that walk off somewhere. Anyway I bought another pair and about 2 days later those darn scissors found their way back to my sewing room.
