Northeast Coast PLEASE Prepare for Hurricane Irene

Yea, in Connecticut the last time we felt a hurricane was Bob in 1991. We lost power for 5 days.
I went out today to try and get D batteries, Home Depot was out completely already. I'm looking for battery powered lanterns with no luck.
I guess I'll just have to use my battery powered stitching lights.
We don't live by the shoreline, we're in the middle of CT, but they have shifted the track west a little which makes the eastern half of the state susceptible to tornados and we would be on the east side of the winds.
Ah, good times, good times. At least I have an Iphone to check out stuff online if we lose power.

Yes, we are in a precarious situation here. Our island is only 7/10 of a mile wide at the widest point. If we don't get out early enough we won't be able to get out at all. The tiny islands to the north of us flood before we do. The ocean is four blocks to the south of us and the bay (actually a channel) is two blocks to the north. When bay drains with the tides, but when there's a storm, the wind keeps driving more water into it and then it breaches the retaining walls.
We live in a tiny cottage that was built in 1922. I have no illusions about it surviving if the flood waters come this way.
It will be what it will be. It's all in God's hands now.

When Rita hit us ,we were without power for almost 2 mos. We had 15 bulldogs and 2 little Gk. But we managed. I wouldn't expect help from the Gov. for 2 weeks.You have to be ready to take care of yourself and a few others for a time. Many out of state church members were here cooking 3 meals a day for weeks after. They were a God send.

We are just finishing up with boarding up the windows and next I will pack up two of my sewing machines to take along. I need to get my son in here to figure out what plugs to pull. Think I'll take a last shower, too, for the sake of my hostess!
