I had the gastric emptying test and that isn't a problem. Another thing done by the gastroenterologist was to stretch my esphogus. He wanted to do it again 2 months later. I passed on that and eliminated wheat and that helped. Hearing that you found someone, helps me not to lose faith that I will, too. :)
Just so you know, dilation isn't quite as bad as it sounds. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

How fortunate you are to have found a caring physician. :)

The one I go to treats my DH for Type I Diabetes and does fine for him. He rarely gets grumpy with my DH and seems to listen to what he has to say. I think that the doctor doesn't know what to do for me other than prescribe meds so that is why I asked for references to someone in the field I need. He just said he doesn't know anyone. OK, but that doesn't mean medications will help with my food allergies. I'll keep searching. :)

Have you tried a Naturopath? Sounds like someone that stays away from medications/prescriptions may be right up your alley.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. I'll see if I can find one. I will be seeing about a Medical Nutrtionist since my Insurance Company representative agreed that they pay for that service since I have Type II Diabetes. :)

Hello Tropical. I too suffered from food allergies. My wonderful Dr. used me as a research project.ha. I took a blood test for allergies. That was about10 years ago. It is called ELISA ACT BLOOD TEST. I am allergic to complete corn family, rice, on and on. Lost 17 pounds by going on right foods and I can tell you it is wonderful. They sent the blood to Reston, Va. and it came back to my Dr. They test it for 350 foods and etcs.

Not every doc graduates at the top of the class, somebody has to be at the bottom...

While doctors aren't there to tell us what we want to hear, but instead to diagose and treat, they still need to listen to their patients. What good does it do to write scripts for a patient that won't take the medication anyway?
I agree with Charlee! I work in an allergist office and there are some GP's that don't believe there are 'allergies'. Get a new primary MD then ask to be sent to an Allergist and IMMUNOLOGIST. The immunology side will help a lot with a proper diagnosis.

One thing that jumped out at me when I read your post was the word....he! Doctors are no different than husbands.

Just try going to a different specialist then he recommended - boy does that get their attention.
Back when I needed a slip to see another Dr. my primary told his nurse not to give one to me. He didn't know that I heard him. I went to the guy I wanted to anyway and the next time I saw my primary I suggested that things can get mixed-up when info isn't discussed directly so would he please tell me first. Twenty years ago and he always listens to me

    I agree with this.
Long story, tried to make it shorter: I have a friend whose cholesterol tested at 319 at age 40. Was told to excercise and cut out red meat, butter, eggs, etc., in addition to the meds the doc prescribed. Couldn't get the count under 300. Fast forward to age 65, she started getting rashes on her arms and face. Went to doc after doc after doc, all they did was prescribe creams to treat the symptoms. She wanted to know what was CAUSING the rashes. She finally went to Naturopath and underwent some bizarre testing. Naturopath told her to cut out all wheat, soy, corn, sugar, etc. Put her on a strict diet & gradually added some stuff back in. She also quit taking ALL her meds. Her approved diet included eggs, red meat, and clarified butter. Not only did the rashes go away, but she also dropped 30 pounds and HER CHOLESTEROL DROPPED TO 200.

What I take from this story? The "rules" that doctors are trained to follow don't always apply to everyone.

I don't think you are complaining; I think you have a legitimate right to feel heard by your doctor. Doctors are incredibly personal choices and you have to have a good rapport with the doctor to begin with. If you can't have an open dialog with room for your questions and opinions, you have the wrong doc. You need to keep searching for someone who will give you the "bedside manner" you need.

When searching for my last OB, I went around and asked the nurses who they recommended after advising them what I was looking for. I stated the traits important to me and what I considered "deal breakers" and the nurses came back with knowledgeable recommendations.

At my first meeting, I told my doc I would be his "problem child" and that at least once during our time together, I would disagree with him and/or make a choice he disagreed with. I told him up front if he couldn't handle that, he could leave the room right then. From that point on, we got along famously and sure enough, when I disagreed with him, he gave me all the medical information I needed to make an informed choice and let me make my own decision.

Doctors have different medical philosophies, you need to research until you find a doc that has a similar philosophy as your own. It means you may need to make some calls and ask questions, but it can be done. If I can find a doctor I like, ANYONE can! (are you getting that I was a tough customer? :D )

Good luck and don't be afraid to take charge of your medical care. You are the one who has to take the medicine after all!!!
