Isn't that the stupidest thing ever? I thought that SS was supposed to try to catch these thieves, but they are real lax about it. No wonder so many get away with it.
And they wonder why medical costs are so high...

If it was mine it wouldn't be a controlled med, just something to help me sleep. Doesn't it seem strange that someone would go to this much trouble and not pick up the medicine? I haven't had anything filled since June '09.
If it were something to help you sleep trust me abusers want it.(I see lots of drug abusers in my proffesion almost on a daily basis)
I would also follow up on the Identity theft thing. I have been an identity theft target back before you heard so much about it. It took at least 8 years to clean up my credit report. (they didn't offer insurance etc back then) I came real close to having my wages garnished .
Make sure that you get to the bottom of this.
They may too just be testing to see if your information worked for the ,and then on to bigger things!

Be sure to rip up or shred all documents even magazine subscription cards with your name printed on it. Those credit card companies are the worst sending apps for cards I don't want I always tear the app up to smithereens the part with my name on it. I also rip up old utility bills and anything with our name printed.

This is kind of what happened. The doctor's office gave a prescription to someone with my name, but spelled differently. I have an a in my last name she has an i. Because the pharmacy spelled her name incorrectly they got me out of the computer instead of her. Meanwhile she doesn't have her prescription and I can't believe she hasn't called them before now. You would think that the doctor's office would give more information to the pharmacy so these things don't happen.

Last week I got a call from the pharmacy saying that my prescription was ready for pick up, but I never placed one to begin with. I assumed it was my monthly Syntroid being filled a little early. I went to the pharmacy, gave them my name and they game me back the bag with the medication. Since I was curious I opened it right there and found out that it was not only a medication I never heard of, it wasn't even for me! The girl was very embarased,

I work in a doctors office and we call in lots of scripts. Most pharmacies have a voice mail system now to receive the messages. It is common practice to spell the name of the doctor, the patient, patient date of birth and leave the office phone number in case of errors. Although I am a nurse, anyone in the office can call in prescriptions. Depending on the medication, this patient may not be able to get another prescription, sleep aids are considered controlled substances and a doctor would not be permitted to rewrite this script until the appropriate amount of time had passed. But even some other prescriptions may be restricted by the choice of the physician.
I have a very common last and first name as does my husband. He has been give wrong prescriptions by pharmacies, even controlled substances. He realized the error before he got out of the store, but after he had paid (grocery pharmacy) and they would not take it back and treated him like a criminal telling him not to try to be 'pulling any tricks' on us. The bad part was he did not get his prescription that was really ordered filled and came home with narcotics we didn't need or use. I have also been given wrong prescriptions. I understand that they cannot take back pills and give them to customers, but they should have a disposal system available for just this reason.

When I had talked to the insurance company, I asked why they couldn't take out the names since we no longer had their insurance. Their response was that they NEVER remove any names. Not sure why they don't but that was their response to me. Thankfully we got it cleared up, but it was a hassle.
