if an energy drink has sugar in it, it will produce an "insulin crash" about 20-30 minutes after you start drinking it. the sugar in it makes your body produce more insulin in response to the bolus of sugar. then, you begin to experience a lower blood sugar, and get tired. the safest ones, if something like that exists, are the sugar-free ones. the average cup of coffee has between 80-120 mgs of caffeine in it. most of the energy drinks have about that--the "double size" ones have twice the amount. if you have heart disease, you don't need the burden of that drug in you. if you're really tired, take a nap. and if you're hard core tired and healthy, pop a no-doz. it has 200 mgs of caffeine, nothing extra, no sugar, and no questionable additives. better yet--try to get enough sleep. hard to do, i know (from experience), but it works the best in the long run!

I partially agree with MaryMo. FIRST, eliminate Garotade and Powerade type drinks from the equation as they are not necessarily the BAD energy drinks. They can actually help you. THEN, ban the energy drinks such as Monster, 5 hour energy, Rock Star, Red Bull, etc. Too many young people are using them in excess which is dangerous. They can cause or contribute to physical damage. AND, yes, they can be addictive..... if not physically...psychologically.
