Hubby looks closely: "Looks like the backstroke!" Just an old soup and waiter joke. My first thought was vinegar. That would assure it is dead, and after pouring it all out, I'd do the vinegar clean that they recommend for irons. Not that I think to do it very often.

Even as poor as I am, I'd have tossed that iron right in the outside trash and headed to Wallyworld for the next one!!!! <shutter, grimace, chills, yucks>

Put a stopper in the bathroom sink and turn the iron upside down and shake it -- pour more water in it and repeat the process until the bug comes out. I say do this in the sink so you can be sure it comes out and where it lands.
It's just a bug...nothing to throw the iron out over by any means.
