I know the stars you mean. We made them when I was a little girl and sold them. I have recently tried making them again. http://www.highhopes.com/3dstar.html shows how to make the stars. I have tried making smaller stars by using narrower paper strips, ribbon or velum. It is amazing how nice they are. I hope this site is a help to you.

I miss her and all the shows they used to have on. Don't watch any of those channels anymore. I was invited to Carol's show in L>A> in 2003. I made angels, but ran out of time.

I used to make these as a child- it was passed along through my family's German heritage. There used to be paper companies in PA where you could buy for cheap the scraps from their paper mills, but with the death of so many paper mills, the paper got harder to find. It has to be precisely cut, otherwise the stars go wonky as you work them.

Things we did with these stars: Poke a hole with a needle and then hang them on the Christmas tree with a paper clip through the hole. Decorate with glue and glitter, then dip in hot wax to permanently seal them. (The paper clip really aids to dip them in the hot melted wax.) They keep for years and year this way, if you take care not to crush them when you put the ornaments away at the end of the season. My mom still has ones I made as a child.

A gal in my little sewing group was making tiny ones from curling giftwrap ribbon. They were very colorful. I think you could use larger ribbon too.

This is the star that Carol Duvall taught...I saw that show too..she called them German Stars. I made 250 of them one year and did nothing but those stars for the ornaments...it was gorgeous..the next yr the box had been crushed in packing ...needless to say no more stars
