I NEVER respond to a phone call or email asking for info or money, so that wouldn't work. That includes charities, because scammers masquerade as them, too. All my fund raiser money goes to Susan G Komen, Relay (another BC fund raiser), Autism Speaks and my college.
It's amazing how scammers can make emails look so real. I ALWAYS look at my statements for the REAL phone numbers and call the company to ask if they're sent emails - they usually have not.

I use paypal alot; but chose to use my credit card. I don't like anyone having access to my bank account and only use my debit in person. It is easier to resolve stolen credit card number issues, than live with someone draining my debit account that is directly linked to my checkbook. Just my own personal opinion for what it is worth.

The phishing is: You get an email in your regular mail that says something like "verify your account info to update our records", or something like that. The address it comes from is a bit "off" like: [email protected], or [email protected]. Be sure to forward them directly to paypal!
