We were at the discount grocery store today and while reaching for some jelly my DH remarked that they must be using peanuts to make gasoline now because the single large jar was $7.98. The double pack about $15.00! We bought several units at Sam's Club several weeks ago and if we are careful it should last until the next peanut crop comes in. Otherwise I will just have to make the sacrifice and force myself to switch to Nutella. Ann in TN

I heard on the news there will be a SS raise in January 2012. They said it would amount to about $39.00 for the average person.

A jar lasts me a long time. Only eat it on crackers. I had to throw one jar away because it was past the use by date. Peanut butter doesn't cost that much. How much can it go up?

It's not just the peanuts, it's the fuel and equipment to harvest them, the power to process them, the fuel to transport them and the overhead in the store that add to the cost. And it's going to go thru the roof and later, just might be impossible to even find. In an emergency, the stores only stock 3 days worth.

Peanut butter is a wonderful source of protein and should be considered a staple.

I hate to mention the word in here but it has everything to do with politics.

Yes and then the price's went up and never came back down, now I think any time they want to put the prices way up they just claim shortage first. GG

I have an older dog that has to take pills twice a day .PB is the only thing I can hide them in that she can't pick the pills out. Of course when she gets peanut butter the other three have to have some too, so we go through a big jar about every month or so.

Katiebear, have you ever thought of liverworst. My dog would turn inside out for her pills wrapped in that. Only takes a little bit.
