One of my boys use to crack me up so that I almost wet my pants! When a solicitor called the first thing they usually ask is "How are you"? Well my son would make up a huge story about the worst possible things that could happen to someone ( lost his job, sick, house burned down, etc) and that would send the person off the phone fast!
When he went to college he did the "do not call" thing for me and it worked. I rarely receive any of the stuff now :D:D

ohhhhhh these are some good suggestions! I had "registered" before, but they keep coming! -------- If we don't answer the phone, they just keep calling back! The one that called yesterday sounded like he was 15! Who knows - he MAY have been!!

the do not call only works on companies trying to sell you things, not asking for money or donations.
get caller ID or ask them for their number to call them back. they won't give it!

Yes, that's correct. I love caller ID- saves lots of annoying calls. We have ATT U-Verse and a call shows up on the TV- cool!!!!!!
It did that with Time-Warner too :) When we feel lazy we don't have to get up !!

If they call here this is how the conversation usually goes.......

    "Hello?"

"Yes would you like to donate to the........"

"Hold on a second... Hey scooter stop licking you $%&^*!!!!"

"Ok I am sorry what was that you were saying?"

"I was wondering if you would like to donate to the......"

"Hold on....Would you for the love of Christ stop licking your @#$%$!!!"

"I am sorry what was it your were saying again?"

By this time they are kinda huffy:

"Sir I was wondering if you would......."

"You know if I cold like my @#$%^& I would never leave the house"

"How about I call back at a better time"

And then the call is over.

There are some charities who are exempt from the no-call list. Also if they are in state, I think they meet the exemption, too.

These type of call are not from your local fire or police.
depts. The only donate a very small percentage of what they collect. I always tell to send a request and I will place them on a list for next year. Be sure to ask excately the amount donated to local depts. They can't answer this question so they are put on the spot, usual respond is they will hang up and not call back.

I don't answer the phone unless I know the number now. My husband is another story. He will answer and ask them to hold on for a second they say sure... dh puts the phone down on the counter and walks away.lol. They get the message after a few minutes and then hang up. And of course it's at dinner time! One time my husband asked them for their phone # so he can call them at dinner... they hung up real fast! lol!
