A pickle in the tree?
#11
It is Old German. The tradition is to put one pickle ornament on the tree and whoever finds it first on xmas gets and extra present, as I recall.
A friend of mine puts about ten pickles in her tree to be sure that every one that comes to visit over the holiday would be guaranteed a little prize, so every time you stop by her house you had to find a pickle. Everyone goes home with a treat. She is grand.

Ive seen pickles all over, from the expensive RADko ones to cheap. I don't put one on my tree because it doesn't match. My darling princess of a kitty, Zoey, knows we only put the tree up so she can sit under it.

We do the pickle. My maiden name was German. My sister was the one who found out about and started it when we visited for the holidays one year. We have since started the tradition in our home and it's a lot of fun. My older son usually finds the pickle Whoever finds it gets a few $$.

My heritage is Scottish, English and German but I had never heard of it until I married my DH who is !00% German. He bought us a pickle ornament our first year married and apparently they always had one, it was a game to see who could find the pickle on the tree first.

No, I don't put a pickle on my tree. Never heard of the tradition until a few years ago. I do put a long nail hanging from a red ribbon on my tree as a reminder of the tree Jesus hung on. After all, the holiday is all about HIM!

I believe I have 4 pickles ranging from large to tiny. The tiny one is for the adults. I give out special gifts to the finders. Of course 3 of the pickles are for the grandkids. Maybe their just a little spoiled. Got my first pickle from my BF.

I don't put up trees anymore mainly because I have cats that would
LOVE to wreck havoc with it. Not to mention I just don't have room
for a tree.
