Those pictures are outstanding. I love the first one and would just love to have that one blown up.

Totally amazing. We are so into the small details of our small corners of the world... when you think of the huge scale of the earth... and pictures like these show that... beautiful Hawaii was made entirely by volcanos, and so were many other places. My brain is too small to comprehend it all.

Yes, WE are close to hurricanes but we are 95 miles from the coast... no fault lines within too many miles and no volcanoes!
Of course, if the huge caldera that is Yellowstone goes we're all toast so guess it doesn't matter...
Same reason you live where there's tornadoes and/or hurricanes. They love the country or they don't know any other place to live or can't move anywhere else. I live at the foot of a volcanoe....it's 20 miles from my house to the top of it....mostly going UP! Live another 30 miles from entrance to Mt. Bachelor....a volcano and The Sisters are right there next to Bachelor. One of the Sisters (3 mountains) has a bulge growing just like Mt. St. Helens has......... Oh -- and Crater Lake (another volcano) is 75 miles away! We take our chances......the chance of one of them blowing is off the chart....but we DO know one of them MIGHT blow some day. Will I move ---- NOPE!

Those pics are amazing. I was mesmerized. It was like being there. Those poor people. Mother nature is awesome. And sometimes a little frightening.
