Popcorn Stuffing

Popcorn Stuffing
I'm teaching my 8 year old twin grandsons to quilt. Last time we were together they started small pillows, and on Tuesday we will finish and stuff them. I was asked by Tobey if he could stuff his with popcorn and put it in the microwave (LOL). I don't know where he got that idea but it does sound like fun. I'd love some opinions on whether or not we should give it a try.
Thx

Make a little sample pillow out of all cotton fabric and thread and have a little experiment with the boys. If it works, fun! If it doesn't work or smokes/burn it is valuable lesson learned. You want the twins to try it with you so you can point out the pitfalls because now that the thought has occurred to them, you don't want them to sneak and try it unsupervised.

Has your GS come into contact with anyone who has arthritis or was in need of a heating pad? Dried corn filled bags (dried beans and rice work too) are all the rage now. You warm them in the microwave and they retain heat like a hot water bottle. the type corn used is a different type then popping corn but I wonder if he saw someone using a corn bag and that is how he got the idea.

Thank you all for you comments. Today I bought some kernels and will do a sample myself before the boys get here....then, perhaps, whatever the outcome, we will do the experiment. The idea is to have fun, not necessarily keep the pillows for further use. "feline fanataic" I'm about to look at at the sites you suggested.

Hubby and I made bags that were filled with field corn. They were made from eight sections of muslin and each given a child friendly patterned fabric pillowcase. My daughter uses them in her kindergarten class for children that have a tendency to run all about. Each one is about 4.5 pounds. They are meant to be held in their laps. She has a very active class this year.
