Same to me, although I struggle sometimes and have to keep up with this good idea.

We are in the grocery store every single day. I don't like frozen meat, so I buy fresh for whatever we are going to eat that particular day. I buy fruit everyday also. I'm getting pretty good at not buying things other than what I go in there for though..that took lots of years of practice.

I DO !!! I need to. I did Weight Watchers and that is one of the things they really stress to help stay on point. It also helps take alot of stress out of the week.

I like the above poster just make a list of what we are making for the week, which night we have them is totaly up to whats going on that day.

I plan my week out on Friday evening, do most of the cooking in a couple hours on Saturday; then only have to reheat thru the week. It's HUGE help. We're up at 4a, out of the house by 5, by the time we're done with work, taking care of the pets, exercise class, etc; it's 7pm. I'm tired and HUNGRY. A few minutes in the microwave, or in the oven while we shower, and dinner's done! I save the complicated meals for the weekend.
We do the same thing for our lunches thru the week; Anything that can be prepared as a 'grab & go' gets done on Saturday the same time I'm preparing dinners.
Here's a Sample Week:
Spagehtti
Chicken & vegetable stirfry
Spinach & black bean enchiladas
Shepards pie
Cheater Chicken & dumplings
The noodles, rice and chicken and beef, are cooked on Saturday.
Spinach enchilada mix is made Saturday.
All you have to do is combine with one or two other ingredients & heat up. ( oh yeah made the dumplings... easy)
Mashed potatos are from Weekend meal,

we sort of do, we sit down together and discuss what meals we would like to make for the next 2 weeks and i (build) my list from this ... we do not necessarily have a strict ... having chicken on monday, meatloaf on tuesday type of menu, but more we have this to choose from today. works out great for us, saves me lots of money and keeps the kitchen organized.

When my six kids were at home I always made a menu and it helped to save lots and lots of money, now that it is just hubby and me, and sometimes just me because hubby works out of town alot, I don't do it but really need to go back to it. Our apartment complex was doing a food drive for the elderly and so I thought I would go through the cupboards and see what I could donate, OMGosh I ended up throwing out almost $100 worth of out dated food. I had cans of Campbells soup that were outdated (do you know how long the shelf life is on soup, about 2 years and I had it outdated by months). If I were still making menus and buying only what I needed that would never have happened!

I go to the grocery store and buy veggies and meat on sale for the days I need it. Usually about a weeks worth or a little under. That is what we eat. LOL We eat mostly European, fusion/Asian and fusion/ Mexican style. If you eat rice and don't own one yet besure to get a rice cooker. They are wonderful. That and a two chickens roasting in the oven.

My husband, who is 63, was never allowed in his ex-wife's kitchen, even though she didn't like to cook. And never did the grocery shopping. So now, he LOVES to grocery shop. It's like an adventure to him, whether I go with him or not. (If not, he sometimes comes home with new things he has discovered) He enjoys it so much, and gets so much happiness out of it, that we eat what he brings home- and it makes us both happy. i don't mind grocery shopping, but it's not my favorite thing to do- except with him- it's like watching a little kid. Fun.

I planned to (some day) but I would rather quilt or read or anything else but cook -- Writing it down in my unused daily planner would help -- sticking to the menu: no way, as there is always take-out and eating places when the family agrees

I made the mistake of letting DH go with me to grocery store this week. Bill was $40 more than I spend and I got a lot less. I had to do him like I did the kids. Put stuff back. He thought that $3.99 a lb was a real good price for bacon. I never pay more than .99 on sale. I buy whatever meat is on sale, in bulk, and separate it and freeze it. Dinners are never planned as he is a Truck Driver and eats where ever that he can get a parking spot. Yesterday he did not tell me where he was going so after he has eaten dinner he says, "That was good. Makes 3 times I had fish today...I delivered to 4 LJS today and I had a fish sandwich for brunch & a fish and chips for late lunch." I had fixed baked for dinner. He was reminded to make a request before noon or dinner is whatever I took a notion to cook. DGS will eat everything except lima beans. Have you ever seen 9 yr old that loves cabbage, spinach, turnip greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts, eggplant, fried green tomatoes etc.? Made myself hungry. Going to put on a pot of beef stew....
