My mom taught me this lesson well - she hated housework - she always felt that a walk to the park (she didn't drive) or going for an ice cream cone, etc. was a much better use of time. She never worried if our home was picture perfect, it was lived in and we had a great time growing up. I turned out a lot like her - when our kids were little, if we got up and decided it was a great day to go to the beach - we went - beds went unmade, breakfast dishes sat in the sink - the vacuum cleaner didn't get run that day - this drove my husband NUTS! He is the kind of guy that felt we should leave the house clean - I won more often than not.
My house is usually messy, if you want to see me, come on over - if you want to see my house, make an appointment ... I would rather spend the day quilting, doing something with my adult children, etc. than mopping the floor. I would rather be remembered as the mom who was willing to drop whatever and go do something fun and memorable. I don't want my kids to remember that I didn't have time to take a walk - that a clean house was more important.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT!
