I know they "say" you can find anything you want on the internet, if that's so, how come I can never find the quilt sites back that I went to just a few days ago, of course I can't find anyones address either, even if I know it! LOL

I had one guy once come to my door, my German Shepherd dog was out back, but was coming in just as I opened the door, this guy stuck his foot inthe door jam, my dog comes up beside me, I grab his collar. this guy looks at my dog (who is huge!) and says "I am sorry I think I have the wrong place" I said I think you do, and called the cops right after I shut the door.

I'd google it to see if there is such a genre, but I don't want to see. Plus we have filters and parental blocks on our computers, which would alert me that someone was trying to look up something naughty, and then I'd have to exercise self-discipline. Seriously, though. I do not worry about google earth showing a street view of my house. Anyone driving by can see exactly the same thing. And if they want to go to zillow and see how much it appraises for, have at it -- it's not accurate, but by all means look it up. The same info has always been available to anyone doing a title search or looking at public records. It's never a bad idea to periodically google your own name (and your kids) and see what comes up. I actually found out that someone I know dedicated her book to me by doing just that. Was quite a surprise, since we haven't been in touch for years. RST RST |
I don't worry about it but I do worry b/c I just tried to post a pic for the first time. It didn't come up so I sent it again and still didn't. Now I hope it doesn't come up twice!

No I do not worry about posting anywhere on the internet.
Thing to remember is to use good common judgement and don't post anything that could create a problem for you later on. For instance I'm on facebook and have that account so secure it would take a reverse engineering guru to hack it however I also don't post much personal information or photo's there regarding myself or family and friends. And my list of friends has to be approved by me....... in other words a friend of a friend cannot just add themselves to my buddy list and cannot get any of my info. I had my identity stolen back in late 2009 which "was not done on the internet" but fortunately for me I caught it straightaway in by Feb. 2010 I was in the national identity stolen system. Your identity can be stolen much quicker offline than online. I do all my online banking online and find it alot more secure than doing it locally. Someone asked a while back can't remember if it was on this board or the Cricut board if we considered folks online on boards like this friends and many said yes and many said no and for the most part those that said yes couldn't even tell us the full name of their so called friends. My response was NO internet folk cannot in my definition be called friends. To me a friend is someone you would totally trust with your life and you would give yours up for them. I consider folks online in these categories 1) was just introduced to that person, 2) that person after casual conversations become acquaintances, 3) that same person becomes a social friend because I start socializing with them and doing things with them, 4) a good friend because trust is being built between the two of us, 5) best friend......someone who I have gotten to know like the back of my hand so to speak and would give up my life for them and they would do the same for me. So for the sake of this board I would consider any of you that I put on my buddy list as #3... a social friend with the rest bring casual friends in category #2. Now I have made a handful of "good friend" #4 online because trust is being built while online and have even met some of them in person and I certainly know there full name, where they live and phone number and anything else we choose to exchange with each other. Now I digress..........I never worry about posting anywhere on the net simply because I choose what I will say without divuldging anything I don't want them to know. There is nothing to fear about the internet if we use common sense in how we behave and put out on the internet. |
At the high school where I am temporarily teaching, the IT teacher says that using Firefox for your browser is much safer than Internet Explorer.
